Generic data protection statements for use by PFO's, PGA's and Charities on Payroll Giving Donor Mandates
In order to protect the charities interests and maintain the expectations of the donors, the Institute of Fundraising has published a generic data promotion statement for use by Professional Fundraising Organisations (PFO's), Payroll Giving Agencies (PGA's) and Charities on Payroll Giving mandates. The statement is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act and has received the assent of the Information Commissioner's Office.

What is Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving is a scheme that enables employees to give to any UK charity straight from their gross salary (before tax is deducted), and to receive immediate tax relief of up to £5 for every £10 donated.
What are the benefits to charities?
Payroll Giving provides charities with regular, reliable donations, allowing you to plan ahead and budget for the future.
What are the business benefits?
Quick and easy to set-up and administer, Payroll Giving is a great way for businesses to demonstrate commitment to the causes that their employees care about. It can also aid retention and recruitment of staff, and enable businesses to generate a sustainable income stream for charities.
What are the benefits to employees?
Payroll Giving is an easy, tax-effective way to give to charity - so it costs employees less to give more. The system is easy to opt in and out of, giving donors full control over their giving.
Why should my charity offer Payroll Giving to its staff?
By offering Payroll Giving internally, your fundraising team has the perfect opportunity to practice their approach with other employees before reaching out to new ones.
Additional Benefits
Launched in January 2006, the Payroll Giving Quality Mark recognises and rewards organisations (businesses and charities) for making Payroll Giving available to their staff. The Quality Mark comprises a certificate and logo, as well as Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
Should I get involved in Charity Consortia?
A number or charities benefit from being in a charity consortia to grow payroll giving donations. Click here for tips on making each consortium a success. Click here to share the experience of a recently formed consortia, Charities for Change.
